Today is the 12th anniversary of the Montreal Massacre. Luckily I didn't have to cover the memorial service at the college - I covered the one in Summerside last winter and it was far more emotional than I had expected. I know as a journalist I'm supposed to keep a professional distance and not be as affected by things like that as regular people, but it's hard with services like that.
I do have one good memory (sort of) from last year's service - that was when I met my first fan :) This guy (he was a little slow, but hey, that doesn't detract from his fondness for me!) came up to me as I was setting up, and said "Are you from the radio station?" I said yeah, he said "C102?" And I said yeah, and he took a deep breath and said "Are you Robyn Brady?? Oh I hope you are!" And I said uh...yeah actually I am. He started welling up and said "Oh wow! I listen to you do the news every day! I love you!!" I was speechless. Who knew there were such things as news groupies? Course, I've got one here in Chatham as well - I've had two hand written, hand delivered letters from some guy named Don Jones who apparently things I'm just the best :)
