How heavy are mattresses anyway? Like would I be able to drag the thing by myself? The sales guy said they'd load it onto whatever vehicle I have (and tie it down if it's just my little car), so all I'd have to do is unload it and take it into my apartment. It seems good help is hard to find (no surprise)

The sales guy is an idiot. One tying a matress on top of a vehicle can be dangerous if it is not well tied down or even if it is. Interestingly enough, this question was on Car Talk last week.

A mattress is the heaviest most awkward thing you can imagine carrying. Trolls use them to build up their strength so they can slinging corpses around without looking like wimps to fellow trolls. (Yes I have been reading Harry Potter, why do you ask?)

Well, I'm not terribly worried about having the mattress on top of my car. It's about five blocks from the store to my apartment, and Chatham is a very small town - not like there's a lot of traffic to worry about.

Drive slowly. Shouldn't be a problem in your little hamlet.

Well I can handle the driving, it's the lifting and lugging I'm slightly worried about.

Oh yeah.
How far is it to the mattress store? Ask the sales dude to come with you to help and then drive him back!
Wear something low cut. A little cleavage won't hurt in such a situation.

Oh Heathy, always there with the good advice :) The store is up on St Clair (not that streets mean much of anything to you) - it's about a five minute drive.
Carla said if I can get it to my place, she'll help. I love Carla. She's better than any of these stinky boys around here.

they are just awkward to move...if you can get a truck, i'll help you move it - if i'm not on vacation...when do you get it? i'm no help, am i? ;)

They're really awkward. They're not THAT heavy, but their general desire to flop makes it incredibly difficult to move by yourself. It's one of the few things that I always ask for help with. Also, I think it would be *extra* inconvenient for you because you're not that tall.

When is it that you're picking it up?

I can pick it up any time between now and next Wednesday, but I want it as soon as humanly possibly. I've called my roommate to see if he'll help me, but he's never around.

Hmm. I'd offer to drive down and help out, but we have company up this weekend. :(

Well dammit, what's more important? You slacking off with your "friends" or me sleeping comfortably??? Jesus man - PRIORITIES!

*laugh* I'd drag them with, but one of them is coming all the way from England to Pennsylvania or something and then driving up. I think he'll have had enough travelling.

[livejournal.com profile] okoshun has the car today and is going to the gym right after work. I doubt I could bike down there in time!

They are a pain to move the flopping thing.

Ours has handles but its desire to bend and flop makes one learn new words quick.

I agree with your sister on the cleavage thing :):):)

Can't your roomate help you move it from the car to the bedroom? :) Make him squirm

He had his cell turned off while he was golfing, said he didn't get the message until he was already on his way back home, and when he got home, there was my mattress, already in the apartment.
