Nothing really exciting to write about today, but I'm bored.
Last night was the Rock's staff/listener two hours of fun at the new go kart track at the Wheels. Only a handfull of staff showed up, which was too bad, but those of us who were there had a hell of a lot of fun. I'm all prepared to kick some newspaper ass at next week's media challenge races.
Today is blood donation day. I hope my iron's up enough. Then I can have cookies and lay around for the rest of the afternoon without feeling guilty. I should root through the station's DVD supply, see if there's anything good. It's doubtful, but what can you do.

I'm now allowed to give blood anymore. :(

From the Canadian Blood Services Guidelines:

"Unfortunately, some people may never be able to donate.
Serious health problems, possible exposure to infectious disease(s), or participation in high-risk activities can permanently defer some prospective donors."

[...]

"All men who have had sex with another man, even once, since 1977 are permanently deferred."

Point of irritation: Note that they don't make any mention of whether the sex was protected or not, and don't ask any similar questions about heterosexual sex, protected or unprotected. (Although they will temporarily defer any woman who has had sex with such a man for six months. Because, you know... HIV goes away after six months in women, apparently.)

Yeah, it seems a very narrow, stereotypical and outdated rule. They go through a long list of questions with each donor, asking detailed questions about your sex life - you'd think the screening would be the same regardless of your sexual preference. A heterosexual woman is just as at risk of contracting something as a homosexual (or bisexual) man.
