George is back! Yay!! So far it's been a really good morning - lots of laughs, George seems relatively happy to be back, and we're all quite glad to see him (of course, he didn't bring us presents, so that gladness is dimmed somewhat)
As I was waiting in line at the grocery store yesterday, I picked up a pamphlet for President's Choice Financial. I've never really considered switching banks, but now I am. PC has no monthly rates, free cheques, free net and phone banking...makes me wonder what the hell I'm still doing at BMO paying $23 a month. Course it also makes me wonder what the catch is. What do they NOT give me that my regular bank does?
I cannot wait until payday. I've got $10 left in the bank. Lots of overtime coming my way though. Yay for overtime! Maybe I'll get my ears candled this week - I've been wanting to try it out for a while.

We're with PCF (and another bank where our mortgage is) and the only thing I don't get from it is being able to walk up to a teller and do things. But, if you don't need money orders or interact with tellers often, go for it. It's been pretty good and the fact that they have Pavillions in Loblaws (just in case) to handle things like adding accounts, replacing cards, etc. are awesome for me, since I have 2 within walking distance and 1 within driving distance.

I don't tend to deal with tellers that much. But say I needed a money order for something - can I get that at the store branches?

I seem to remember that you can order them online - not sure if you can stop in and pick one up at the booth or not. You could call their 1-800 number and ask, I'm sure. I usually just go to my other bank when I need one.

Basically you lie down on a massage table, they stick special candles in your ear, light one end and it draws out all the crap. At the place I'm thinking of going, just down the street, they also give you a neck and shoulder massage.

I have an account with PC Financial, and plan on making it my main account in September. As someone already mentioned, they cut costs by not providing teller service. So if you need a money order, I think you're out of luck. However, besides that they're a great deal, AND you can use CIBC bank machines for free if there's not a lot of PC Financial ABMs where you are (as is the case for me) - you can'r use CIBC teller service though.

Now do you know if you can get money orders from any financial institution, regardless of whether you have an account there? Not that I have purchased a money order in the last five years or so, but you never know when the need might pop up.

You can buy them at the post office (2.75 for local, 3.75 for US). I'm next to positive you can buy them at most shipping places, too. And there's always services like Western Union, and heck, Paypal.

I bought a money order at CIBC back in 1998, and I've never had an account there. I think they just charge a fee if you don't have an account.

I plan on keeping my account with my old bank (Royal) in case I ever need a service PC doesn't provide. But to be perfectly honest, so far they've been great. OH! And you get PC points when you do banking transactions, which you can use to get "rewards" or free groceries!

I like free groceries :D And I like the idea of keeping a 'normal' bank account open.
You're one smart cookie :D
