Yeah, I was watching to see how long it took from when the urgent thing came down on the wire to when CNN had their long, drawn out obits - took about a minute and a half ;)
Our mayor died two summers ago and we'd been waiting for months for it to happen, and we had about three days' worth of stuff in the can. We figured we'd wait a half hour so it didn't seem so much like we were a bunch of vultures just waiting for him to kick it.

I remember when CNN accidentally sent out all those obits to the web and Smoking Gun picked it up. I was like, oh my fuck, was that me? But it wasn't. Thank God for small favors.

Hee hee.
After the 2010 winter olympic bid decision about a month ago, the TSN people forgot to edit the story before posting it on their website - one story for 'Canada gets the games' and right under it the 'Big Upset, South Korea wins' story.

No, it's nothing like that at all, actually. It's a matter of respect. Think about it - your father dies, and not two minutes later, you started hearing about it on the radio?

yeah, totally. But how many media outlets do you know that give consideration/respect in the timing of reporting?

Sorry guess I just got a cynical outlook on media, after all Ive learned in the last year!

Actually, as far as timing goes, most do have a lot of respect for families, or at least give the illusion of respect. The ones who don't (and I think we've all run across our fair share of those) are in the minority.

Not in the british media they're not, they are notorious (especially journalism) for their lack of compasion. (The way the Dr Kelly situation has been handled for instance)

Ok, I'll give you that. Just don't paint us all with the same brush, k? Some journalists are quite nice :)
