I'm more than a little ticked off at my roommate this morning. He was home for a while yesterday, which was great. We hung out, chatted and such, and it was nice. Then around 7 there comes a knock at the door. He's invited a bunch of people over. Ok, no problem, although it would have been nice if he'd even mentioned it to me. Not that he has to ask my permission by any means, but a little warning would be nice, like 'hey, I hope you don't mind, but I invited the boys over for a few drinks' or something along those lines. A little courtesy, you know? They were all people I know from work, most of whom I get along with (stupid little bald bastard in my home...grrr), so I sat out and chatted with them. Then it's inching towards 9, I'm really tired and would like to go to bed. I say it's getting late and I'm going to turn in, and Matt mocks me! 'Oh, poor baby Robyn, has to get up early cause she's a big star on the morning show - waa waa waa.' Yes, I do have to get up early, so kiss my ass! The rest of the guys join in, telling me I have to stay up, it would be rude to leave (although if you ask me, it's rude to try and keep me up) They ordered pizza and had it out on the dining room table. Seamus jumps up to see what kind of treats are up there, I get up to go scoot him down, and Matt freaking screams at him "GET THE FUCK OFF THE TABLE YOU LITTLE PIECE OF SHIT! WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING??" Matt's got some massive anger issues. I whacked him with a pillow as I walked by and told him to calm down, and he flipped out, yelling at me about how I've got to discipline my cat, if I don't, either I go or the cat goes, and went on about a five minute rant about how much trouble Seamus is, shedding all over the place, climbing on things (yes, he's a cat - they tend to do that) and on and on and on (of course, all of this in front of other people, which embarrassed the hell out of me.) Fine, he's not fond of cats, I've always known that. But Matt knew the day he met me I had a cat, he knew the cat would be coming with me when he practically BEGGED me to move in. It's a little late to complain about it now. And people wonder why I'm nervous about going away for the weekend and leaving Seamus behind!

Yeah, and I know exactly what he means by discipline. He means beat the crap out of my poor kitty til he learns.

You might want to head off him disciplining the cat by mentioning that if a cat is disciplined he'll rarely connect the punishment to the act (especially when it's something as natural as walking on a certain surface) and it just increases the overall anxiety --which means a higher likelyhood of peeing all over the place...

...by the way, moth crystals will keep a cat away from an area...

Most definitely!

--but they're not too bad on a sofas, you can put them under the slip covers --or inside the cushion casing.

Ack! I'd be worried, too. I think that people who have sudden, almost non-sequitur-like (I speak good!) outbursts of anger like that would really scare me, too. :(

Yeah, Matt's always been prone to these little outbursts, and if they're directed at me, I will obviously get pissed off but I can deal with it. When he freaks out at a defenseless animal (who is one of the sweetest, most harmless cats on the planet) it really really makes me angry.

Aww, that's very unfair of your housemate. It's not as though you just brought along your cat after you moved in and without mentioning it (like he did with his guests). He knew you had a cat when he asked you to move in so it shouldn't be an issue for him.

I also think it's unfair you were not told about the guests coming. I'd be really annoyed as well. Not only that, you were made to feel like you were being unsociable when it wasn't even your choice to have a party that night. I'm sure had it have been a party you knew about and had chosen to be in with people of your choice then you would have stayed up.

I understand why you are annoyed anyway.

Actually, I probably wouldn't have stayed up, regardless of the circumstances. I'm pretty fussy about my sleeping patterns, if I have any choice in the matter. Getting up at 2:30 in the morning is hard enough when I get my usual 5 hours of sleep. Matt has this idea that since he is able to *barely* function at work after a night of drinking and no sleep, then anyone should. But I like do to more than just function. I take a great deal of pride in my work, and get rather annoyed when that is sabotaged.

Discipline a cat? Bwahahaha!
Exactly!! Cat does something bad, you say 'no kitty,' cat looks at you with complete wonderment because cat has already forgotten what he just did.
