newschickThis is it - our last day in Antigua. It's been quite a trip. On Friday, we went for a glass bottom boat tour over to the coral reef. I forgot to pop a Gravol before we left, and felt quite ill, although I did manage to keep from hurling all over the little fishies. I also refrained from snorkeling, but it was a nice ride. We had some live calypso music on the way back, courtesy of Captain Franco.
On Saturday, the winners and dad and I went for a five hour tour around the island, stopping at various historical places, including Betty's Hope (one of the first sugar plantations, dating back to the 17th century), Nelson's dockyard, and Shirley's Heights (one of the most scenic places on the island.) Our bus driver, Vance from the department of tourism and environment, was very informative. Apparently Canada does a lot for the education system here - donating money, school buses (every school bus in Antigua is Canadian) and a large percentage of their teachers are from Canada as well. Go us!
Pool Boy, who goes by the name Wiggy (real name is Lornell), took me for a little stroll off grounds on Friday, which was very nice. We went to the next beach over, which is an old part of the resort, not used much because not as many people come here as in past years. He spent a large amount of time telling me (in a very thick Caribbean accent) that I'm a sweet girl, and I'll always been in his heart. It was a nice walk, and no, there will not be any baby pool boys nine months from now...
One part of me is loathe to go back home to the cold, but another part is desperate to get back. Antigua is very nice, but I miss home. Course this time tomorrow as I'm tired as hell and freezing my ass off, I'll regret even thinking that.
