God I'm in a crappy mood today. I was feeling pissy when I woke up this morning, and it's just been getting worse as the day goes on. I don't know what caused it, I don't know how to make it better. I keep snapping at everyone, I fumble my way through newscasts which gets me even more pissed off. Must be PMS.

Well, just wash your face and calm down.

And have a glass of juice or something... maybe your blood sugar is low? I'm all about the blood sugar these days.

Ha! Yes, I should wash my face. Face washing solves all the world's ills.

low blood sugar makes you angry?

Oh yeah, and then some! Low blood sugar gives you that crashy, "Everything sucks," feeling, taps out your energy levels and makes you cranky. One of the few times I'll be seen just snapping at people is when my blood sugar is really low.

Yeah, what he said.

Dehydration makes you very crabby too, but I doubt that's your problem since you drink like 8 litres a day. One time we were walking in New York City during this brutal heatwave and I just got so cranky I was snapping at Marshie and Aki, my dear friends. Then I had some lemonade from a hot dog vendor and magically cheered up.

Yeah, I've been drinking more than usual this morning. Simon brought in more oatmeal rasin cookies and I caved and had one. I've been trying to flush it out of my system for three hours. Think it's gone yet?

No. I think it takes you 12 hours to digest anything, water or no water.

so it doesn't really matter what I eat or drink the day of a weigh-in?

That's me alright...

Particularly good for low-blood-sugar days: Cheese, peanuts. Anything with protein and some fats, really. Things we think of as "sugary" (candy, etc.) can help short-term or if you need something to take the edge off NOW, but will have you crashing again in 20-40 minutes.

What everyone else said about the blood sugar. Cookies, bread etc are often the culprits causing blood sugar spikes and then crashes... A good resource about blood sugar is a book called The GI Diet. Presumably you could find some lower glycemic-index foods that would still fit with your Herbal Magic programme.

But I hear you on the PMS too. Poor Iain has to really stay out of my way a couple days a month.... Feel better soon!

Yay for low GI! I'm doing that right now, hence the bowl of sticky oatmeal for breakfast. But it really seems to work... I had plenty of energy for the gym and my energy level generally feels more "even" overall.
