Gotta love those listeners
Mar. 12th, 2002 08:20 amWe got a call this morning that some woman found some ice on her driveway this morning. Oh...my...GOD!! Not ice!!! She said she wanted a reporter out to her place as soon as possible - you know, before the ice melted and all. It's true, last night wasn't all that cold - just around the freezing mark, but still, finding some ice isn't earth shattering news. Our guess, if it didn't fly off the roof of a passing truck or get blown off the river onto her driveway, it may have dropped from a plane or something. Not an every day occurrence, but definitely not breaking news. So anyway, I took down her name and number and said I'd pass the message along to our news director, which I did. He said he'd probably send Matt out since he has nothing better to do today. About half an hour later the woman called back, absolutely livid that we hadn't sent someone already. Paul (the boss) explained to her that every available person is on-air until 9, so he'd send someone then. Apparently this wasn't acceptable, the woman cursed Paul up and down, said he was obviously not a very dedicated newsman, and that if he was going to ignore this, she'd just call the London station and they'd do a story on her, and then hung up. Oh my breaking heart, we lost the story of the year!!
