Computer problem
Sep. 15th, 2004 07:33 amA wise man once told me one way to make your computer run faster was to defrag it once in a while. My poor lovely computer has been getting slower and slower, so before going to bed last night, Mike set it to work. It supposedly defragged away overnight, and I checked it just before leaving for work to see how it was coming along - not even up to 1% completed! What the hell?? What's wrong with the stupid thing? (LOVELY stupid thing...)

Date: 2004-09-15 06:46 am (UTC)Did I install DiskKeeper Lite onto it before I gave it to you? If so, use that. If not, I'll see about getting a copy of it to you.
The built-in one starts over from scratch anytime anything touches the hard disk at all. This can include background processes like your virus scanner checking for updated definitions or even system processes and other stuff. Getting the built-in one to complete a defrag on a modern system can be tricky. Plus, it sucks.
