My boss, Paul, told me this lovely story this morning. Last night he was listening to his radio out in the garage while getting the recycling together. He usually listens to an American sports station, but after sunset, the signal switches to a Christian station. Paul says they're not terribly fond of us. Apparently the announcer referred to Canada as a pagan wasteland full of sodomites, and that although they do have some Canadian listeners, they're too afraid to call in because of the Gestapo leadership that doesn't allow them religious freedom. Who knew?

Being from the SouthEast, I admint I don't think about Canada all that much, except when a Repulican gets elected. My general impression has always been that the US got extremely lucky as far as neighbors go.

I see definate advantages to a pagan wasteland, although I think I might be considered an odd bird their as well. If you put all the religions in a circle, including all the ones that would fall under paganism, I'd be somewhere constantly wandering around in the middle. On the whole I don't enjoy radical anybody, but moderate pagans would certainly be more fun to hang around than Southern Baptists. (I cannot say anything bad about the Methodists since technically I am one or the Catholics since I am married to one.)

pagan? well, i am. wasteland? lots of potholes, but not quiet a wasteland. no religous freedom? well, if there wasn't i wouldn't be able to be pagan/wiccan living in this extremely catholic neighbourhood
